Built on practice, not promises

CLAYA TECH LTD was established in Harlow, Essex, with a straightforward purpose: to provide computer systems design and programming services to businesses that needed them done properly. Not ambitiously. Not fashionably. Properly.

We have worked across industries — retail, finance, logistics, professional services, research and manufacturing — and the consistent pattern we have observed is that businesses do not fail for lack of technology. They struggle because the technology they have does not match the way they actually operate.

Our response to this has always been the same: slow down at the beginning, understand the real situation, and design from first principles. This approach takes longer at the outset, but it consistently produces systems that work from day one, require less remediation over time and are understood by the people who operate them.

Today, CLAYA TECH LTD operates as a focused technical practice. We accept a manageable number of engagements at a time, maintain a single point of contact for every client, and measure our success not by project count but by the quality and longevity of what we deliver.

We listen before we propose

No recommendation is made until we have a thorough understanding of your current situation, your constraints and your desired outcome. The quality of our proposals depends entirely on the quality of our listening.

Standard 02

We write code to be maintained, not admired

Every line of code we produce is written with the assumption that someone will need to read, modify or extend it in the future. Cleverness for its own sake is not a value we hold. Clarity, documentation and sensible structure are.

Standard 03

We communicate progress honestly

When a milestone is reached, we report it. When a challenge arises, we report that too — promptly and with a proposed course of action. We do not protect clients from difficult information. We help them navigate it.

Standard 04

We deliver complete handovers

A project is not complete when the code is deployed. It is complete when the client's team is confident, the documentation is thorough and the operational procedures are in place. We do not consider an engagement closed until this standard is met.

Standard 05

We decline work we cannot do well

Capacity management is part of our professional standard. We do not overcommit, we do not rush, and we do not accept engagements that fall outside our area of genuine expertise. If your project is better served by a different provider, we will tell you.

We protect client confidentiality absolutely

Your systems, data, strategic requirements and commercial arrangements are treated with complete professional discretion. We operate under formal confidentiality obligations on every engagement and do not use client work as marketing material without explicit written permission.

A small team with deep technical experience

CLAYA TECH LTD operates as a focused specialist practice. We are not a large agency with rotating junior teams. Every client works with senior practitioners who have direct hands-on experience in computer systems design, programming and infrastructure planning.

Our team brings together expertise across systems architecture, full-stack software development, database design, cloud infrastructure and technical project management. We have worked across the private sector, public sector and research environments, which gives us an unusually broad perspective on what makes systems succeed in different organisational contexts.

We maintain a deliberate limit on the number of active engagements. This is not a constraint we apologise for — it is how we ensure that every client receives the attentive, focused service that our work requires. Technical work is a form of care

We believe that designing a system for a business is an act of attention. To do it well requires genuine curiosity about how the business operates, respect for the people who will use the system daily, and a willingness to question assumptions — including your own.

Too much technical work is delivered as a product: scoped, built, deployed and forgotten. The client is expected to adapt to what was delivered rather than finding that the delivery adapted to them. We have always found this approach insufficient, and so we work differently.

Our engagements are conversational rather than transactional. We ask more questions than most technical providers, we revisit early decisions when new information emerges, and we treat the handover as the beginning of a relationship rather than its conclusion. We want the systems we design to serve your business for years, not months.
